My Little Baby Girl Keira

February 19, 2007

My beautiful wife Heather just gave birth to our little daughter Keira on February 8, 2007 at 4:53pm. As I look at her miraculously formed body, especially her face, the idea that we are just random displays of evolutionary success seems even more absurd to me. The truth is that we have been created by God. If I believe that, everything else seems to fit. If, however, I try to convince myself that there is no God, nothing else seems to fit. Thank you so much Keira for reminding me of this most important truth. And thank you God for giving me my little Keira.

Welcome to Truth Matters

December 7, 2006

Welcome to Truth Matters, where we discuss truth matters because truth matters. As the prophet Isaiah said about 2700 years ago: “Truth has fallen in the streets…” (Isaiah 59:14). But if truth has fallen in the streets, it is because it has first fallen in our sermons. It has fallen in our culture because it has first fallen in the church. In fact, Paul calls the church the “pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). If we don’t hold up the truth for others, our culture will become more and more decadent, and the children of this world will continue to be used as guinea pigs in our philosophical experiments.

In today’s relativistic culture, the church must learn to retain the truth with deep conviction, yet reveal the truth with deep compassion. Conviction and compassion can live side-by-side and Jesus is the best proof of this. We don’t have to aim for one at the expense of the other.
